At the beginning of next week at the latest, the relevant amendment for the timetable of the consultation will be submitted to the Parliament
At the end of the week or at the beginning of next week, the amendment will be submitted to the Parliament that will define the timetable of the consultation with the social partners and the scientific bodies on the minimum wage and, within the next week, it will be discussed.
This was stated, among others, by the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Kostis Hatzidakisin an interview with the TV station Action24 and noted that, according to the timetable, the dialogue with the social partners will be completed by the end of February and, at the beginning of March, the Minister of Labor will make a recommendation to the Council of Ministers to receive the final decision.
Regarding the amount of the imminent increase in the minimum wage, Mr. Hatzidakis clarified that, at this stage, no scenario can be confirmed, as the process to determine the amount of the new increase has not yet begun.
However, the Minister of Labour he underlined that the government has given examples of writing with last year’s increase, pointing out that, with last year’s increase, Greece is in 9th place among the 22 EU countries. which have a statutory minimum wage, “in the meantime, two other countries intervened and now we are in 11th place”.
At the same time, he emphasized that the new increase will be significant and will respond to the pressure faced by workers, especially those who receive the minimum wage, but at the same time will take into account the endurance and competitiveness of businesses. “There is no magic rubber band that will eliminate the consequences of the international crisis,” he said.
Referring to the SYRIZA video on the roof, the Minister of Labor said that he was impressed by this video and added: “We received from SYRIZA 17.5% unemployment, we took it to 11.4%. We took the minimum wage to 650, we took it to 713, and we’re going to raise it again, significantly and fairly, and he’s pointing the finger at us. Mr. Tsipras only increased housing allowances. We have an integrated and large for Greek standards program that concerns 137,000 young people. In March, low-interest or interest-free loans will begin to be given to young people and young couples up to 39 years old, while, by the end of February-beginning of March, the delivery of the first houses of the “Coverage” program, which will cover the poorest fellow citizens, is expected us, free or at very low rent (1,000 houses)’.
Also, the Minister of Labor referred to the benefits of implementing the Digital Labor Card, saying the following: “Insurance contributions have already been reduced by 4.4 percentage points. We believe that the extension of the Digital Work Card, which records the time for employees, will allow us to deal with the indicated work and thus more insurance material will be captured and we will be able to further reduce contributions in a healthy way.
Among other things, Mr. Hatzidakis pointed out that there are 682 different types of sectoral contracts. “Contracts are not ordered, they are the result of an agreement between employers and employees. We want and encourage sectoral contracts, we seek common denominators, but we cannot legislate them” the minister clarified.
