Under threat of a civil servants strike after the increase granted to police officers in the Budget, President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) denied this Thursday (23) having specified the category that will be covered by the resources and said that everyone deserves a raise, but defended the role of the police in the country.
Bolsonaro made the statements in his weekly live, after returning from a trip to Guarujá (SP). The demonstration takes place two days after Congress approved the Budget for 2022, with a forecast of R$ 1.7 billion to be readjusted to police officers.
The president addressed the issue during the participation of federal deputy Vitor Hugo (PSL-GO), a name he is trying to get for the government of Goiás in next year’s elections.
Vitor Hugo commented on the decision of the Goiás Governor, Ronaldo Caiado (DEM), to adhere to the fiscal recovery regime and to allocate resources for public tenders and to grant increases to categories when he was interrupted by Bolsonaro.
“Did he specify someone for the increase?”, asked the president, receiving a negative response from the deputy.
“Look, the federal government didn’t specify any category either”, he said, about the amount destined to the readjustment to civil servants.
“I’m telling you, there’s nothing defined,” he pointed out. As a result, Bolsonaro started to defend the actions of the police. “But it’s here, Federal Highway Police. It has broken a record for drug seizures,” he said. “The penal police of ours also have a huge job, and their salary is down there.”
Despite praising the category, Bolsonaro did not confirm that the police will benefit from the resources. “It doesn’t mean that we are going to serve this or that category. R$ 2 billion are reserved, let’s see what will be done in the future.”
The president expressed his intention to give raises to all servers and said he was talking to the economic team. “Can it be done? It can be done. We are aware of the difficulties, inflation is high, 10%. But we see what we can do, within responsibility.
“Does everyone deserve it? Everyone deserves it,” he continued. “If we’re going to give a [aumento] linear for everyone, it will give 0.6% of readjustment for everyone, of that R$ 2 billion. Now, if there’s an opportunity, [a gente] talk about it. We don’t want to commit excesses, injustice for more or less.”
The president concluded by saying that all servers are important. “It’s really a category that in large part or almost all of them takes Brazil to its destination in its policies.”
On Thursday, the Internal Revenue Service auditors decided to suspend their activities and hand over all management positions, in protest against the approval of the 2022 Budget.
The decision of the meeting provides for the maintenance of these shares until the time when the government publishes a decree regulating efficiency bonuses, the main demand of the category.
The movement of tax auditors began on Tuesday (21), the day Congress approved the 2022 Budget. Deputies and senators complied with the request of President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), who wanted to provide police officers with a salary increase, its political base, in an election year.
The increase in police officers was requested by President Bolsonaro himself. Only PF, PRF (Federal Highway Police) and Depen (National Penitentiary Department), in addition to community health agents, obtained an adjustment forecast within the civil service.
On another front, federal employees dissatisfied with the prediction of salary readjustments for police officers in 2022 threaten to trigger a strike as big as those promoted in 2012 during the Dilma Rousseff (PT) government.
