Panel SA: Higher education companies disclose new projection on the supply of trained physicians

by

Amidst the debate on the regulation for the creation of medical courses in the country, which takes place in a scenario of legal disputes, resumption of the Mais Médicos program and pressure from educational companies with an eye on a lucrative segment, Abmes (Brazilian Association of Maintainers of Higher Education) will release a new projection on the supply of graduates for the market.

According to data from the entity, based on a study commissioned from the educational research company Educa Insights, if the current pace of graduates from medical courses is maintained, Brazil should only reach the level of 3.5 doctors per 1,000 inhabitants in 2030.

Celso Niskier, president of Abmes, talks about the risk of a medical blackout, which he attributes to factors such as the delay in opening new medical courses. The measure, valid until April this year, was implemented at the end of the Temer government.

Niskier defends accelerating the training of new physicians, through the resumption of the Mais Médicos program and the creation of new courses, using the same quality criteria for both routes.

“It is urgent to discuss the openness to quality projects from institutions that want to offer medical courses, both public and private. Growth must take place throughout the system so that these numbers do not have to wait until 2030. The next pandemic will not wait for the doctors who are now entering to graduate”, he says.

The American network of indoor water parks Great Wolf Lodge is preparing to open its largest resort in August in the United States.

Located in Maryland, the park will have more than 20 different slides, in addition to pools and other rides, according to the company. The temperature will be kept around 29°C all year round.

Prices start from US$199 per night (about R$1,040).
