Panel SA: Deputy who wants CPI of Americanas foresees advance in February

by

Federal deputy André Fufuca (PP-MA), who is trying to collect signatures for the opening of a CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) of Americanas, says he will wait for the exchange of mandates in the Chamber to continue with the effort.

He claims that both the current bench and the one about to take over were sensitized by the consequences of the retailer’s BRL 20 billion accounting scandal and should join.

Fufuca predicts progress to reach the 171 signatures needed shortly after February 1, when the next legislature begins.

“There is a very positive signal from the benches in relation to this theme, not least because it is a theme that involves the credibility of the Brazilian stock market and needs to have transparency and responsibility”, he says.

If it goes ahead, the CPI will join other initiatives, such as that of the CVM (Comissão de Valores Mobiliários), which is already investigating the company’s management and its reference shareholders for omitting relevant information in the first communiqué on the accounting scandal that led to Americans asking for judicial recovery.

The agency also says it is making use of agreements and cooperation it has with the Federal Police and the Federal Public Ministry to investigate the situation, among other efforts.
