See the new INSS proof of life calendar

The INSS (National Social Security Institute) has again extended the deadlines for retirees, pensioners and other beneficiaries to take the annual proof of life and will only start blocking benefits that are not proven in the birthday month from July 2022.

A new calendar was defined for beneficiaries who did not undergo the procedure between 2020 and 2021, with maturities from February to June 2022. The new INSS ordinance also postpones the blockages according to the month of the retiree’s birthday, a topic that was under discussion between the banks and the INSS.

“From July 2022, in case of absence of proof of life in the month of the benefit holder’s birthday, the monthly credits of the second and third subsequent competences will be forwarded to the payment network with a blocking mark, including for those with month from January to June 2022”, informs the ordinance, published in the Official Gazette of the Union this Tuesday (28).

Before the extension, the INSS planned to suspend, as of February, benefits with proof of life expired in January 2022, including for birthdays in January.

The INSS also establishes that the financial institutions responsible for payment are authorized to update their registration data in the month prior to the benefit holder’s birthday.

According to the agency, about 36 million beneficiaries must take proof of life annually. The procedure must be done by everyone who receives benefits through a checking account, savings account or magnetic card. Until October, 3,313,845 policyholders in the country still needed to take the proof of life.

Even though it is not mandatory, re-registration can be done.

Banks offer the option of carrying out the proof of life at ATMs using biometrics (for those who have a record of palm or fingerprint reading), in person at branches and through official applications (in some institutions).

Anyone who has facial biometrics registered at Denatran (National Traffic Department) or TSE (Superior Electoral Court) can take the digital life test through Meu INSS. Seniors over 80 and beneficiaries with limited mobility can request a home visit or an informed location.

The appointment must be made by phone 135 or by My INSS. There is also the option of carrying out the procedure with an attorney previously registered with the agency.
