The oil and gas extraction sector pays the highest starting salary in Brazil. The conclusion is from a study released this Friday (10) by Firjan (Federation of Industries of the State of Rio de Janeiro).
On average, the admission salary in oil and gas extraction reached BRL 9,605 in 2022. The amount is almost five times more than the national average for the analyzed areas (BRL 1,944), says the entity.
The study takes into account 2022 wages in real terms —that is, nominal values after discounting inflation. The source of the data is the Caged (General Register of Employed and Unemployed), which includes formal job vacancies.
According to Firjan, in addition to standing out in absolute terms, oil and gas extraction also had an increase of 10.8% in the admission salary in 2022, compared to 2021.
“It is a sector that, in addition to being hot, demands a high level of specialization from professionals”, says Jonathas Goulart, manager of economic studies at Firjan.
The second highest admission salary, R$ 6,185, was recorded by the area of international organizations and other extraterritorial institutions. It is the sector that encompasses activities at foreign embassies and consulates in Brazil, says the study.
The third place in the ranking was filled by the area of research and scientific development. The average admission salary reached BRL 4,884, according to Firjan.
Next, information technology services (R$ 4,771), financial services activities (R$ 4,288) and support activities for mineral extraction (R$ 4,021).
