The FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) forest certification program, which completes 20 years this week, will reach 2021 with around 8 million hectares certified in the country and an increase in the participation of small and medium producers entering the system.
In the last ten years, the increase in the total certified area was 24%, while the number of certificates increased 84%, which indicates an increase in smaller areas.
According to Daniela Vilela, executive director of FSC Brazil, there was also diversification beyond wood, such as certification of the production of nuts and açaÃ.
Despite the deterioration of Brazil’s reputation in the environmental area, Vilela claims to have seen positive pressure from European importers for wood of origin.
