Vehicle owners in São Paulo are already able to know how much they will have to pay in IPVA (Motor Vehicle Ownership Tax) this year – and it is recommended that they prepare their pockets, as the Fipe table (Institute for Economic Research) is used as a reference for calculating the tax, it recorded an average increase of 24.94% in the 12 months up to September 2021.
According to Fazenda São Paulo, the average increase in the amount of the tax to be paid is 22.54%. The tax starts due next Monday (10). The consultation can be made through the various channels of the banking network, such as applications, self-service terminals and internet banking. On the São Paulo Secretariat of Finance website there is also a page dedicated to consultation; click on this link.
To consult, the car owner will need to inform the Renavan license plate and number, which appears in the vehicle document, the CRLV (Vehicle Registration and Licensing Certificate). Payment can be made at lotteries and by credit card, for those who want to pay in installments. Banco do Brasil, Bradesco and Santander no longer receive IPVA payment at the ATMs. See here what each bank allows.
The IPVA rate in São Paulo has not changed and remains at 4% on the market value for flex-fuel vehicles (using gasoline and biofuels), and 3% for those powered exclusively by biofuels, such as ethanol, electricity or gas .
Even with the same rate, owners will pay more due to higher car prices. With the higher sales value, the percentage referring to the tax ends up also higher.
The valuation of used cars was due to the combination of heated demand at a time of difficulties in the automobile industry, which cannot keep up with production due to the lack of parts, especially semiconductor chips.
This year, the IPVA in São Paulo may be paid in up to five installments. Until last year, there were three quotas.
The state government grants a 9% discount for those who pay in full in January. Payment from February will have a 5% discount for those who opt for a single fee for that month and for those who pay in five installments. The discount for new car owners is 3%.
