The government of São Paulo fined 10,541 people and establishments for not complying with the mandatory use of masks since the rule came into effect, on July 1, 2020, until December 31, 2021.
There were nearly 573,000 inspections carried out by the State Sanitary Surveillance in the period, according to the government.
Masks have been mandatory in the state since May 2020 in open spaces, establishments of essential activities and state public agencies. Governor João Doria even announced the flexibilization of the use of protection in open environments as of December 11, but he backtracked with the emergence of the omicron variant.
In the past year, Jair Bolsonaro has been fined more than once for breaking the rule. After the protests on September 7th, on Avenida Paulista, he and 13 other politicians and businessmen were fined, including the owner of Havan, Luciano Hang.
Doria also fined ten other leaders for not wearing masks in the protest against the president, on September 12, such as Ciro Gomes (PDT) and João Amoêdo (Novo).
The amounts applied by the State Sanitary Surveillance are R$ 552.71 for individuals and R$ 5,294.38 for establishments per person without a mask.
