The level of stocks of tests to detect influenza has come into a worrying situation, according to Alexandre Bitencourt, president of Sindilab-DF, which brings together companies from the private clinical analysis network in the Federal District.
He claims that demand for tests, both Covid and flu, exploded in the last week of December and continues to accelerate in these first days after the turn of the year.
In the case of Covid’s tests, Bitencourt says that the supply is under control, but the kits for testing influenza could run out in 20 days, according to forecasts by Sindilab-DF. In some cases, according to him, there is no longer any.
“This raises a concern because the doctor needs the test result to know what is happening and to attend to the patient properly”, says Bitencourt.
Test makers say they have already started to ramp up production.
