The tax office proceeds with offsetting any confirmed debts for taxpayers who have a tax refund. Those with no debts should expect to receive the refund within a week of the credit report being issued.

More than 9,000 tax returns are submitted daily to TAXIS, with the rate increasing recently.

The platform opened about two weeks ago and almost 140,000 taxpayers have already rushed to declare their last year’s income. About 27,000 of them received a credit report and are immediately awaiting a tax refund as AADE speeds up the process.

However, only those who do not have confirmed debts to the State will receive the full amount in their bank account. For the rest, a set-off will precede, either with older debts, or with new debts if, for example, the tax return is submitted after the liquidation of ENFIA.

For example, if there is a confirmed debt of 300 euros and the tax refund is 400 euros, then the taxpayer will see 100 euros in his account. In case there is a debt of 500 euros and a tax refund of 300 euros, then the taxpayer will not receive any amount and the debt will simply be reduced to 200 euros.

It is noted that in the event that a debt is paid in one lump sum through offsetting, then the 3% discount on the amount owed normally applies.
