Inflation reaches 12.73% in capitals in 2021; see ranking

Inflation exceeded 10% in 10 of the 16 capitals and metropolitan regions surveyed in 2021 by the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics).

Curitiba (PR) was the metropolis with the highest variation in the IPCA (Broad Consumer Price Index): 12.73%.

According to the IBGE, which released the indicator this Tuesday (11), the result of the capital of Paraná was driven by the 51.78% rise in gasoline prices. In 2020, Curitiba had an IPCA of 3.95%.

The second highest inflation last year was in Vitória (ES): 11.50%. Rio Branco (AC) appears next, with 11.43%.

The other capitals and metropolitan regions with IPCA above 10% were: Porto Alegre (10.99%), Campo Grande (10.92%), Salvador (10.78%), Fortaleza (10.63%), Recife ( 10.42%), Goiânia (10.31%) and Aracaju (10.14%).

Belém (PA) had the lowest inflation in 2021: 8.10%. The increase, however, was greater than in 2020 (4.63%).

São Paulo, the most populous metropolis in the country, registered an IPCA of 9.59%. In the country, the indicator had a high of 10.06% last year. It is the highest variation of the IPCA in Brazil since 2015 (10.67%).
