Delay in shipping of ocean cargo persists in 2022, says Maersk

by

Container shipping company AP Moller-Maersk warned customers on Tuesday that it continues to have problems moving goods around the world as decongestion is taking longer than the Danish company was expecting.

The pandemic has led to shortages of container ships and congestion in ports at a time of high consumer spending, meaning hundreds of container ships are idle outside ports.

“Unfortunately, 2022 did not start out as we had hoped,” Maersk said in a notice posted on its website.

“The pandemic continues and unfortunately we are seeing further outbreaks that affect our ability to move your cargo,” the company said, adding that it expects the limitations to continue “for some time”.

The longest wait times for container ships to unload or pick up cargo occurred on the west coast of the United States. At the port of Long Beach in Los Angeles, you have to wait between 38 and 45 days, Maersk said.

However, the company noted that there has recently been a decrease in northern Europe, where the Belgian port of Antwerp was expected to reduce the wait to around two days this week from ten days the previous week.
