President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) said this Wednesday (19) that he can guarantee the salary readjustment only for federal police officers, federal highway workers and penitentiary agents. He also ruled out a correction for the remaining categories of civil servants in the 2022 Budget, but promised an increase for the following year’s budget piece.
The statements took place in an interview with TV Jovem Pan.
“We can do justice with three categories. It won’t do justice with the others, I know that. There’s that old question for everyone: are we going to save three categories or will everyone suffer this year?”, Bolsonaro said.
Bolsonaro must decide on the issue in the analysis of possible vetoes to the 2022 Budget. Congress sent to the Executive a project with a forecast of R$ 1.74 billion for a salary increase for police officers, fulfilling a promise made by Bolsonaro for these categories.
The promise unleashed a reaction from other sectors of the civil service, which threaten with a strike and pressure for corrections in their salaries as well.
“Time will tell how we will decide. I don’t want us to commit injustice with public servants. We recognize the work of the public servant, the lag; the inflation that ended last year, 10%, was heavy”, he declared.
“I recognize the work of the servers, they deserve readjustment, [mas] there is no slack in the budget for the current year. I talked to the staff about Budget for next year [2023]. On the occasion of the making of the same, the servers will be contemplated with deserved salary readjustment”, he said.
