Panel SA: Footwear manufacturers regain employment before the pandemic

by

The footwear industry says it has recovered the level of jobs before the pandemic. Last year, almost 27 thousand jobs were opened, reaching 266 thousand people employed in national factories, according to Abicalçados (Brazilian Association of Footwear Industries).

The number matches that recorded in 2019 and exceeds the level of 2020 by more than 10%, when Covid hit the footwear industry. It is the first time that the sector ends a year with a positive balance of vacancies generated since 2016, says the entity.

According to Abicalçados, the number reflects the recovery of activity last year, driven especially by exports, which grew 32% in the period.

The state that employs the most, Rio Grande do Sul, ended 2021 with 76,000 people hired, 10.5% more than in 2020. Next, Ceará and Bahia appear.
