Greece will claim resources from the existing and the next “Connecting Europe” Mechanism to strengthen its railway network, said Infrastructure and Transport Minister Christos Staikouras, who participates in the work of the Council of Ministers of Transport of the European Union, which takes place in Brussels, under the Spanish Presidency.

More specifically, the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Chr. Staikouras said:

“The completion of the Trans-European Transport Network is of fundamental importance for achieving a truly unified and efficient market. The pandemic, the Russian attack on Ukraine and natural disasters have demonstrated the importance of transport connectivity and infrastructure resilience. Mainly, in the railway network, which remains fragmented, at pan-European level.

In this direction, Greece will, in the near future, claim resources from the existing and the next “Connecting Europe Facility” (Connecting Europe Facility), to restructure and strengthen its railway network, strengthen cross-border transport and connect its railway with ports in the country. We are working methodically and systematically to achieve these goals.”
