Panel SA: Repudiation of sexist video gains new support in the construction sector

by

Two important business entities in the construction sector embarked on the movement to repudiate the sexist video that blamed women for the collapse of the subway work on the Tietê marginal in São Paulo.

SindusCon-SP and Secovi-SP, which bring together the largest companies in the sector, released statements this Monday (7) to criticize the video that went viral on Friday (5). They are added to the manifestations of other entities such as the CBIC (Brazilian Chamber of Industry) and the CREA-SP (Regional Council of Engineering), which demonstrated on Friday.

Acciona, the company responsible for the work, also spoke out in defense of the female workforce.

“The authors of the video and those who released it deserve our total rejection for expressing an absurd prejudice against the growing, fair and valued participation of women in the construction industry”, says Sinduscon.

“Secovi-SP expresses total repudiation of such publication. Discrimination is civilizing backwardness. Our full solidarity with professionals in the civil construction and real estate market. Equality. This is the only way to build a country”, disclosed Secovi.

The wave of demonstrations in the sector has political weight because one of the people who helped boost the dissemination of the sexist video on social networks was federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PSL-SP), son of President Jair Bolsonaro.

THE video that circulated on the internet used excerpts cut from another original video produced by Acciona itself —the company responsible for the work— with testimonies from professionals praising the female presence in the work of line-6.

The images of the women are exposed with captions that point to names and positions, and the fake video brings messages that mock their speech as if they were responsible for the collapse.
