According to the Economist’s analysis, this year our country has the best grades in the economy among 35 mainly rich countries
At the top of the list of 35 countries with the best economic performance for 2023, the Economist ranked Greece, speaking of “another unlikely triumph”.
According to the Economist analysis based on five economic and financial indicators (inflation, “inflation range”, GDP, jobs and stock market performance), our country has the best grades in the economy again this year among 35 mostly rich countries.
“At the top of the table, for the second consecutive year, is Greece – a remarkable result for an economy previously synonymous with mismanagement. Besides South Korea, many of the other standout performances are in America. The United States ranks third. Canada and Chile are not far away. Meanwhile, many of the ‘lazy’ are in Northern Europe, including Britain, Germany, Sweden and Finland, which is last on the list,” reports the Economist.
According to the Economist, Greece scores “some surprising results” on the five indicators, based on which the overall score for each country is derived. But what stands out is the increase in the stock market value of the Greek market by 43.8%.
“For glorious stock returns, look thousands of miles west – to Greece. There the real value of the stock market has increased by over 40%. Investors have again taken interest in Greek companies as the government implements a series of market-friendly reforms.” Referring at length to the poor economic performance of countries such as Germany, the United Kingdom, Ireland, as well as Finland, the Economist concludes regarding Greece’s lead: “While underachieving Finns can console themselves this Christmas by drowning their pain in a päntsdrunk (local drink), the rest of the world should raise a glass of ouzo to this unlikely champion” .
