“Whoever makes profit at the expense of the citizens will pay double, exactly as the law stipulates” said the Minister of Development
A fine of 610,190 euros is imposed by the decision of the Minister of Development, Kostas Skrekas, on the company “AGINOR SA” for violation of the provisions of article 54 of Law 5045/29-07-2023 regarding the reduction of phenomena of unfair profit, after checks carried out by Interagency Market Control Unit (DIMEA).
Specifically, after a consumer complaint related to the purchase of air conditioners within the subsidized program “Recycle – Change Device” announced by the Greek government in June 2022, DIMEA carried out a close inspection of 117 product codes. The company was found to have breached the profiteering provisions in 54 codes. As a result, the fine prescribed by the relevant legislation was imposed, which is twice the benefit that the company obtained from the sale of the products in question.
The Minister of Development, Kostas Skrekas, said: “Controls for the phenomena of unfair profit will continue in 2024 and even intensively. The subsidized ‘Recycle – Switch Appliance’ program was created by our Government to help households replace old energy-consuming appliances with new ones to significantly reduce their energy costs. But some have tried to speculate. We don’t allow that. We control and enforce the law, which applies to everyone without exception. Anyone who makes profit at the expense of the citizens will pay double, exactly as the law stipulates.”
