While hospitalizations for Covid fell in view of the advance of vaccination in recent months, the cost per patient with the disease in the ICU went in the opposite direction and broke a record, according to a survey by Fenasaúde, the federation that brings together the largest health plans in the country.
It jumped from a level of around R$ 68 thousand in March to almost R$ 99 thousand on average per patient in August, according to the organization.
By the calculations of Fenasaúde, the expenses of health operators rose from R$ 77.6 billion in the first half of 2020, to R$ 96.9 billion in the same period this year.
The entity attributes the escalation in prices to factors such as the rise in the dollar, the increase in logistical costs and uncertainties in the Brazilian economy.
