“The three-month ban on promotions, product offers has reduced products that were revalued by 80% in February”
For weighted average price reductions of 15% in specific product categories thanks to the measures taken by the government from March 1, the Minister of Development spoke to SKAI and the show Today Kostas Skrekas.
“We had a reduction in household cleaners, detergents, personal hygiene products, baby diapers, baby milk (…) 3,912 codes” noted the minister. From March 20, a similar measure will also apply to menstrual products.
“Certainly we have products where prices have fallen more, and products where prices have fallen less,” he explained.
Regarding infant milk, he stated that “we have set a profit ceiling to the companies that sell baby milk, and there we saw prices drop by 15%.” “A company that only sells baby formula in pharmacies has reduced the price by 30%” he stated.
“The three-month ban on promotions, on product offers that have previously been overpriced, is another important measure that has prevented thousands of unjustified overpricing. This measure for the month of February has reduced the products which were revalued by 80%”, he emphasized.
For fresh products, the minister mentioned that there is the measure “net prices from the field to the shelf” which also applies from March 1.
“We obliged all intermediaries who buy the products from the producer to the supermarket to sell on invoices at net prices without discounts or service tariffs that ultimately cloud the picture to have transparency in supply chain prices and to control them much more easily for profiteering” noted Mr. Skrekas.
“We are not complacent, nor do we say that we have solved the problem of punctuality, the battle against punctuality is continuous, but Greece has taken the most, the most drastic measures to deal with the problem” said the minister.
