Next Wednesday, March 27, 2024, it will be announced the new increase in the minimum wage, stated, among other things, in an interview on Talk Radio, Minister of Labor and Social Security, Domna Michailidou, who today submitted her proposal to the cabinet.

As he said, “the proposal is the result of both the dialogue with the social partners, i.e. with representatives of employers and employees, as well as the recommendations of scientific bodies, such as the Bank of Greece, IOBE and KEPE. Our aim is on the one hand to support households and on the other to keep the country’s economy at an internationally competitive level. The new minimum wage will be implemented from April 1 to support the country’s workforce, especially now with the summer and tourist season, when we want wages to be higher and household disposable income to be able to cover the “surge” of accuracy. The minimum wage has a positive effect on all 19 benefits, including the unemployment benefit, the active employment programs of DYPA, but also the three years”.

For the platform for working pensioners, Mrs. Michaelidou noted that, within three weeks, working pensioners have reached 46,000, whereas, before the platform was launched, we knew that 36,000 pensioners were working. “This is a substantial improvement in the income of working pensioners, as they now receive 100% of their pension from the 70% they received until now. Tthe fact that every day more and more working pensioners enter the platform and declare it confirms the correctness of the measure. With this new reform, we protect pensioners, increase their income and fight against undeclared work” underlined the Minister of Labor.

To a question for the GIOULA factory, Mrs. Michailidou answered the following: “It is a very unpleasant development for us as well, at a time when unemployment has fallen to single digits and the labor market is on the rise. So far, we have not been asked to intervene. I know that employees and employer are in consultation, so that a solution can be found”.
