The president of Latam Brasil, Jerome Cadier, said this Friday (25) that the invasion of Ukraine by Russia will trigger an increase in air ticket prices.
“From the first reactions, the impact on airline costs is undeniable. Unfortunately in the situation that the sector is in, these increases will impact ticket prices”, said the executive in a note published on the internet.
Cadier stated that it is necessary to monitor and react to three potential impacts. The price of fuel and the exchange rate is one of them, as well as the capital market and the availability of credit. According to him, the supply of commodities for the aviation industry, such as titanium, for example, which is used in the manufacture of new planes, is also a matter of attention.
“It’s a shame, especially at a time when what we want most is to fly again,” he wrote.
The aviation sector was one of the most affected by the pandemic, which left planes on the ground with the closure of borders. The international flight market, which took longer to start to resume, has been rehearsing an increase in supply in recent weeks.
This Thursday (24), Latam Brasil announced the resumption of two international destinations, Boston and Rome, starting in July. With this, the company reopens all routes that it operated in Europe and the United States before the beginning of the pandemic and there are only five other airports in the world left for Latam to reestablish its international travel map.
