SA Panel: Tourism companies assess impacts of the war in Ukraine on business

by

The negative effects of the war in Ukraine should affect Brazilian tourism companies even more in the coming months. For now, the sector feels relatively sheltered because winter in the northern hemisphere makes this time of year less attractive to travelers.

According to CVC, destinations within Brazil are more popular in the summer here.

According to Cia Eco’s estimates, passengers will avoid Eastern Europe, but the optimistic expectation is that the movement of resumption of travel to other destinations will be maintained at this time of the pandemic that is beginning to show signs of tourist reheating.

“There will be a drop in demand for the region. That is predictable”, says Denise Santiago, director of the agency.

For Sergio José Maciura, owner of the tourism company Dnipro, which specializes in travel to Ukraine, not only the country invaded by Russia, but also its neighbors and the general flow of tourists in Europe end up being harmed.

This Sunday (27), the European Union said it will close the bloc’s airspace to Russian aircraft.

Prior to the announcement, at least 18 European countries and Canada had already determined the closure of airspace in measures that affect flights operated by Russian companies Aeroflot and S7.
