Aegean carried a total of 4.4 million passengers during the second quarter of 2024, recording 8% increase in passenger traffic and reaching 7.3 million passengers during the first half of the year, marking a 9% increase compared to the previous year.

In the second quarter of the year alone, Aegean offered 5.4 million seats, 9% more than in 2023, while for the whole year it will offer more than 19.8 million seats, about 6% more than last year.

In particular, the balanced growth of passenger traffic recorded on both the domestic and international networks is fueled by the increased traffic at the Athens hub, which has now established itself as a pole of attraction for international arrivals from distant markets outside the EU, but also by the increased connectivity with the other corresponding European long-haul flight hubs (London, Frankfurt, Istanbul, Dubai) that feed and distribute passenger traffic to the larger or smaller island destinations of Greece through Aegean’s domestic network.

13% increase in passenger traffic on the international network from and to the Athens hub

According to the company’s announcement, the increase in passenger traffic on the international network to and from the Athens hub recorded a 13% increase, confirming the company’s choice to invest further by increasing frequencies to and from the major European hubs, as well as its markets Germany, England, Cyprus, Turkey and the Gulf and Baltic countries. The increase in passenger traffic was corresponding to and from Thessaloniki (+12% in the second quarter) which has already transported more than 500,000 international passengers during the first 6 months of the year, gradually consolidating its position as a destination with activity throughout the year.

Additional flights

Added 1 additional daily flight to/from London (from 3 to 4 daily flights), Istanbul (up to 4 daily flights), Paris, Rome, Frankfurt (from/to Athens and Thessaloniki) and Larnaca, where just in the past few days, the company’s new, upgraded lounge also opened. At the same time, the daily flight to Dubai and the increased frequencies to Saudi Arabia were attempted. Also, additional weekly flights were added to Munich, Berlin, Vienna and Madrid, while in June 3 new direct international routes were added from the Athens base to Vilnius, Palermo and Sarajevo, while new direct flights were also launched in the domestic network itineraries, Thessaloniki-Naxos and Heraklion-Kalamata.
