An increase of 3.1% was recorded in the turnover of the country’s retail businesses, with the obligation to keep duplicate books and for which data are available on a monthly basis, in May this year and amounted to 3.72 billion euros, compared to 3.61 billion euros in May 2023. On the contrary, it marked a decrease of 3.3% compared to April 2024 which had been formed at 3.84 billion euros.

Also according to ELSTAT, for the businesses of the retail trade, excluding the vehicle, food and fuel sectors, with an obligation to keep double-entry books and for which data are available on a monthly basis, the turnover in May 2024 amounted to 1.01 billion .euro, marking an increase of 4% compared to May 2023 which was 0.98 billion euro. While, there was a decrease of 4.8% compared to April 2024, which was 1.07 billion euros.

For businesses in the retail trade, with an obligation to keep double-entry books and for which data are available on a monthly basis, the activities that showed the largest increase in turnover in May 2024 compared to May 2023 are:

  • Retail trade of sports equipment in specialized stores (20.9%).
  • Retail trade of cosmetics and beauty products in specialized stores (14.4%).

Whereas, the activities that showed the greatest decrease in turnover are:

  • Retail trade of carpets, kilims and floor and wall coverings in specialized stores (16.9%).
  • Retail trade of newspapers and stationery in specialized stores (16.8%).

The regions that showed the greatest increase in turnover are:

  • Region of Western Macedonia (18.6%).
  • Region of Central Macedonia (4.5%).

For retail businesses, excluding the vehicle, food and fuel sectors, with an obligation to keep double-entry books and for which data are available on a monthly basis, the regions that showed an increase in turnover in May 2024 compared to May 2023 are :

  • Region of Attica (3.4%).
  • Region of Central Macedonia (0.3%).

On the contrary, the regions that showed a decrease in turnover are:

  • Region of Western Greece (7.8%).
  • Region of Central Greece (4.2%).

For small and medium-sized enterprises in the retail trade, with an obligation to keep double-entry books and for which data are available on a monthly basis, the turnover in May 2024 amounted to 1.29 billion euros, marking an increase of 3.3% compared to May 2023 which had been set at 1.25 billion euros.

For small and medium-sized enterprises in the retail trade, excluding the vehicle, food and fuel sectors, with an obligation to keep double-entry books and for which data are available on a monthly basis, the turnover in May 2024 amounted to 0.52 billion euros, marking an increase 3% compared to May 2023, which was 0.50 billion euros.
