While Governor João Doria is studying ending the mandatory use of masks in open environments, the number of fines imposed for lack of protection in São Paulo has been falling in recent months.
January and February totaled around 200 notices against people and establishments, reaching 10,742 fines applied in total, according to the state government.
The monthly average is below that recorded in the period between July 1, 2020, when the rule began, and December 31 of last year, which was approximately 585 per month.
On Thursday (3), Doria said that the government’s Scientific Committee will decide next Tuesday (8) on the possible end of the mandatory use of protection.
Masks have been mandatory in the state since May 2020 in open spaces, essential activities establishments and state public offices.
In December of last year, Doria even announced the easing of the use of protection in open environments, but went back with the emergence of the ômicron variant.
The amounts applied by the State Health Surveillance vary from R$ 552.71 for individuals to R$ 5,294.38 for establishments per person without a mask.
