Increase in turnover was recorded in: Pharmaceutical-Cosmetics (7%) and Large food stores (4.3%)
A decrease of 2.8% was recorded in the volume of sales in the country’s retail trade in July 2024, as sales moved upwards only in supermarkets and pharmaceutical-cosmetics.
In particular, the turnover decreased to:
- Food – Drinks – Tobacco (18%),
- Furniture- Electrical goods- Household equipment (14.7%),
- Department stores (14.2%),
- Car fuels and lubricants (7.4%),
- Clothing- Footwear (1.3%) and
- Books – Stationery – Other items (0.1%).

As announced by ELSTAT, the general volume index (turnover at constant prices) in retail trade showed a decrease of 2.8% in July 2024 compared to the corresponding index of July 2023, while compared to the corresponding index of June 2024 it showed an increase 1.2%. The seasonally adjusted general index showed a decrease of 3.2% in July 2024 compared to the corresponding index in June 2024.
The general turnover index (turnover at current prices) showed a decrease of 0.2% in July 2024 compared to the corresponding index in July 2023, while compared to the corresponding index in June 2024 it decreased by 1.8%. The seasonally adjusted general index showed a decrease of 2.4% in July 2024 compared to the corresponding index in June 2024.
