Panel SA: Restaurants return to Cade against iFood exclusivity agreements

by

Abrasel, an association of bars and restaurants, should send this week a representation to Cade (Administrative Council for Economic Defense) to ask for the end of iFood exclusivity contracts with establishments.

The entity joins Rappi and Uber Eats, which have already forwarded demonstrations to the body in recent weeks.

According to the president of Abrasel, Paulo Solmucci, the measure is urgent, especially after the departure of important competitors from the market, such as the startup Delivery Center and Uber Eats itself, which ended its operations in Brazil this Monday (7).

“We are entering this process reinforcing the request for them to cancel all types of iFood exclusivity, including contracts that already exist, for the proper functioning of the market”, says Solmucci.

He states that, although iFood claims that less than 10% of its portfolio of establishments have exclusive contracts, the percentage includes restaurants of great relevance in the market.

The industry has been in a tug of war against iFood. Since last year, companies like Rappi, Uber Eats and 99Food, in addition to the Abrasel association, have gone to Cade to complain that the food delivery giant imposes barriers on competitors.

The movement made the agency issue, in March last year, a preventive measure preventing iFood from establishing new exclusive contracts with restaurants and established a one-year limit for renewing existing agreements.
