Reduction by 1.8% showed the income from inbound tourism in August 2024 compared to the corresponding month of 2023.

In the eight months of January and August, according to data from the Bank of Greece, travel receipts recorded a 3.2% increase compared to the corresponding period of 2023 and amounted to 15.1 billion euros.

This development is due to the increase in receipts from residents of the EU-27 countries by 6.0%, which amounted to 8.5 billion euros, as receipts from residents of other countries decreased by 2.8% to 5, 9 billion euros.

In more detail, receipts from residents of the euro zone countries amounted to 6.7 billion euros, increased by 3.0%, while receipts from residents of the EU-27 countries outside the zone also registered an increase of 18.4% of the euro, which amounted to 1.8 billion euros. In particular, receipts from Germany increased by 3.7% to 2.5 billion euros, while receipts from France decreased by 12.4% to 1.07 billion euros. Receipts from Italy increased by 18.3%, reaching 988.6 million euros.

Inbound travel traffic in August 2024 was shaped at 6.9 million travelersincreased by 6.6% compared to the corresponding month of 2023.

In the eight month period, the inbound travel traffic registered an increase of 9.9% and amounted to 24.9 million travelers, compared to 22.65 million. travelers in the corresponding period of 2023. In particular, travel traffic through airports increased by 11.1% and that through road border stations by 7.7%. During the period under review, travel traffic from EU-27 countries amounted to 15.2 million travelers, showing an increase of 10.3% compared to the corresponding period in 2023, while travel traffic from other countries increased by 9.2% and amounted to 9.6 million travelers. Travel traffic from euro area countries increased by 13.4% and travel traffic from EU-27 countries outside the euro area by 4.8%.

In particular, travel traffic from Germany showed an increase of 17.7% and amounted to 3.6 million travelers, while travel traffic from France increased by 7.7% and amounted to 1.5 million travelers. Travel traffic from Italy was also up by 10.9%, reaching 1.5 million travelers. Compared to other countries, travel traffic from the United Kingdom increased by 4.0% to 3.1 million. travelers, while that from the US increased by 8.4% to 1.01 million travelers. Finally, the travel traffic from Russia decreased by 64.9% and amounted to 9.0 thousand travelers.
