As the greens electricity billsi.e. those that the consumer can easily compare between providers, cease to be mandatory from 2025, suppliers are promoting as an alternative fixed tariffs, mainly of six-month duration.

However, as he reveals in the newspaper “Daily» the Minister of Environment and Energy Theodoros Skylakakisthe obligation to issue green invoices will only concern new customers. For existing customers who have a green tariff, providers will be obliged to renew them for as long as they wish.

Also, the government is expected to make a minimum term of 12 months mandatory on fixed tariffs. In particular, the ministry will put a legislative regulation prohibiting from the beginning of 2025 the availability on the market of fixed blue tariffs of six months’ duration.

The prevailing opinion in the ministry is that suppliers with six-monthly fixed tariffs take advantage of the seasonality of prices and trap consumers, who must be educated in the new reality of seasonal fluctuations brought by RES, very high prices in summer, lower in winter and very low in the spring and fall when demand drops.
