The weight of cargo transported last year by private trucks in the country amounted to 161,445.1 thousand tons, marking decrease 10.4% compared to 2022, when 180,137.8 thousand tons had been transported, according to the survey of road freight transport by ELSTAT.

The ton-kilometres reached 4,044,644.3 thousand, down 27% compared to 2022 which was 5,543,290.2 thousand

The weight of cargo handled by public use trucks amounted to 114,173.3 thousand tons, marking an increase of 3.8% compared to 2022 when 109,992.7 thousand tons had been handled. The ton-kilometres amounted to 15,976,152.0 thousand, noting 2.1% increase in relation to 2022 which had risen to 15,647,852.4 thousand.

Regarding the type of cargo (type of packaging for transporting goods), an increase is observed in the categories “Containers” and “Mobile, self-propelled units” with the most important, in absolute terms, in the “Containers” category, by 1,089.4 thousand tons. The biggest decrease, in absolute terms, is observed in the category “Goods on pallets” by 7,921.3 thousand tons.

From the point of view of the weight of the goods loaded and unloaded, in national transport, it is observed that most loadings and unloadings took place in Attica, followed in descending order by Central Macedonia and Thessaly. In terms of the weight of cargo transported by international transport vehicles, it is observed that most loading and unloading of goods took place in Central Macedonia, followed by Attica.
