More specifically, in 2023 the turnover of the Sklavenitis Group (Hellenic Hypermarkets Sklavenitis, Sklavenitis Cyprus, Chalkiadakis, THE MART) amounted to 5.16 billion euros compared to 4.47 billion euros in 2022). Profits before taxes amounted to 135.4 million euros (2.6% of total turnover). The investments amounted to 140 million euros in 2023. On 31/12/2023 the employees were 36,766, while today they are 39,042.
Hellenic Hypermarkets Sklavenitis (EYS) presented sales of 4.3 billion euros in 2023 (from 3.7 billion euros in 2022). Profits before taxes amounted to 112.6 million euros (2.6% of total turnover). Investments amounted to 119 million euros in 2023 and are expected to reach 130 million euros in 2024. On 31/12/2023 the employees were 31,863, while today they are 33,189.
According to those close to the company, the excellent service and high traffic maintained by the company, as well as the gradual de-escalation of energy prices compared to 2022, contributed to the achievement of the above results. It is noted that last year EYS proceeded to create 2,050 new jobs, employing a total of 31,863 in December 2023 (from 29,814 in December 2022), with the total payroll exceeding 615 million euros.
In addition, by consistently prioritizing people, the company in 2023 practically stood by the side of its thousands of employees, through a support plan totaling more than 40 million euros, which related to the following:
Provision of an extraordinary aid of €300 for all its employees in November 2023 (total cost over €9.4 million)
Signing of a new Remuneration and Benefits Policy with an annual increase of 30.7 million euros, through which the remuneration increased by an average of 5.17% for 31,400 employees, starting from the Christmas Gift 2023 and the seniority of the employees in the Company was recognized by the 14-2-2012 to 31-12-2023
Regarding the development plan, within 2023 the company implemented investments of 119 million euros focusing on strengthening its network, through the establishment of new stores in Glyfada, Karditsa and Mytilini, as well as through the absorption of 4 stores of the “GEGOS” chain ” in Eastern Attica and the absorption of the “AS Agora” chain and its 8 stores in Larissa. He also focused on the acquisition of the former “PITSOS” facilities in Rentis, the renovation of 24 stores and digital transformation and energy saving projects in stores and other facilities.
In 2024, the company continues to strengthen its human resources, as from November 1, 2024, the abolition of six-day work contracts came into effect for 5,700 workers, who receive the same remuneration for a five-day work contract.
It also developed its network by opening 3 new stores in Thessaloniki and Rhodes.
It is noted that the company will make investments of 130 million euros in 2024, while by the end of 2025 it has planned investments that exceed 150 million euros.
The investments concern further development of its network and the parallel strengthening of its human resources, in the creation of a new state-of-the-art distribution center of 125,000 sq.m. in Attica, in the further modernization of the logistics infrastructure and in the improvement of e-commerce services.
At the same time, the Group, with the aim of strengthening its presence in the Cypriot market, signed an agreement in June 2024 for the acquisition of the 9 stores of Papantoni, fully securing the 769 jobs of the Hypermarkets of Papantoni. The Sklavenitis Cyprus network now consists of 27 stores, with a workforce of 2,350 employees.
It also rewarded its people this year, by providing an extraordinary financial aid of 300 euros in the form of gift vouchers to each employee in October 2024, with the total amount exceeding 11.4 million euros for all 38,050 employees.
Today, Sklavenitis Group employs 39,042 workers, has a total of 537 stores (510 in Greece and 27 in Cyprus) and serves an average of 700,000 customers daily.
