Government studies project to zero PIS/Cofins on gasoline, says Bolsonaro

by

President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) said this Saturday (12) that the government is studying sending a bill to Congress next week to zero PIS/Cofins for gasoline.

On Friday night (11), he sanctioned a proposal that would zero the tax and ICMS for cooking gas and diesel until the end of 2022, the election year. Asked if the measure would be enough for the high fuel prices, caused by the war in Ukraine, Bolsonaro said no.

“It was planned to do something similar with gasoline, the Senate decided to change it at the last minute, otherwise we would also have a discount on gasoline, which is quite high. I study the possibility of a complementary bill, with an urgent request, study, right? , for us to do the same thing with gasoline”, said the president.

Bolsonaro said there was also the possibility of sending the proposal next week. According to him, he talked to the president of the Central Bank, Roberto Campos Neto, to find out how much the rise in gasoline influences inflation.

The statements were made to journalists in front of the headquarters of his party, PL, where he participated in the affiliation of Bolsonarist federal deputies.

The Chief Executive reported his dissatisfaction with the mega-increase in fuel prices made by Petrobras this week.

Asked if the president of the state-owned company, General Silva e Luna, could be changed, he said: “Everyone has the possibility of being changed, except the vice president and the president of the Republic”.

Then he amended: “Nobody spoke of exchanging [o comando da Petrobras]. You [jornalista] said if it can be exchanged. Anyone can be changed in my government except me, of course, and the vice president.”

Bolsonaro also said that he gives hunches and makes suggestions directly to Silva and Luna, but denied that it is interference. “These are suggestions only”.

For him, Petrobras has “absurd profit”, at an “atypical” moment in the world. The president again complained about the company’s pricing policy, which he said he didn’t understand.

This week, he had indicated a change in the calculation, called PPI. Today, he ruled out doing it by “stylus”.

“You can study the price policy there. Back there, at the beginning of the Temer government, they made the PPI, parity with the international price. It’s something that no one understands, right?”.
