As stated in his announcement, Trade Association of Thessalonikishops are allowed to open on an optional basis on the first two Sundays of the regular winter sales, i.e. 19 and 26 January 2025, with proposed opening hours on those two days from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
With regard to discounts, it is pointed out -among other things- that “in every price reduction announcement, the previous price (often referred to as a reference price) on the basis of which the discount is applied is explicitly stated. The previous price is the lowest price applied by the merchant to each of its products during the 30-day period before the first discount was applied on January 13.
It is also emphasized that particular attention must be paid to the observance of the provisions on discounts and reduced prices, with the penalties for those who violate the law providing for the imposition of a fine equal to 1% of the annual turnover and in any case not lower than 10,000 euros.
In the aggravating case, where the discounts are proven to be inaccurate or misleading, a fine is imposed equal to 2% of the annual turnover and in any case not less than 20,000 euros.
