Day of the Epiphany (6/01) most commercial stores and supermarket are closed with unique exceptions of the press Shop & Go but also the smaller chains such as Bazaar or the OK Markets.

It is noted that after Epiphany, the shops will return to their usual operation, serving consumers normally.

At the same time, the owners of the commercial stores and also the consumers are counting down for the winter saleswhich premiere next Monday, January 13.

Consumers will have the opportunity to obtain products at lower prices, but also traders will increase their activity after the holidays.

The winter sales will run until Friday 28 February with the trade associations announcing that owners have the option to open their shops on the first two Sundays of the regular winter sales, i.e. 19 and 26 January 2025, with proposed opening hours operating on these two days, from 11:00 to 18:00.

Advice to consumers

With regard to discounts, it is pointed out -among other things- that in every price reduction announcement, the previous price (often referred to as a reference price) on the basis of which the discount is applied is explicitly stated.

The prior price is the lowest price the merchant applied to each of its products in the 30-day period before the first discount was applied on January 13.

It is also emphasized that special attention must be paid to the observance of the provisions on discounts and reduced prices, with the penalties for those who violate the law providing for the imposition of a fine equal to 1% of the annual turnover and in any case not lower than 10,000 euros. It should be noted that the winter sales will last until Friday, February 28.
