The European Union will not leave the US decision to impose duties on imports of European steel and aluminum, European Commission President Ursula von der Laien said on Tuesday.

“I am deeply sorry for the US decision to impose tariffs on European steel and aluminum exports.

The EU will act to protect its financial interests.

We will protect employees, businesses and consumers, “the European Commission President wrote in a post on X.

EU Commissioner Maros Sefsovic, posting on the X platform, spoke of an economically counterproductive move.

“The EU sees no excuse for imposing duties on our exports. Financially counterproductive. Scenario of defeat for both. We evaluate the range of measures and will respond in a steady, proportionate way to countermeasures, “he wrote.
