Increase in the number of home insurance contracts against natural disasters is recorded according to a recent survey by the Association of Insurance Companies of Greece (UAE)

The total number of insured houses amounted to 1,246,656 contracts on December 31, 2024, up 7.5% compared to 2023.

Of the insured properties, 662,452 include coverage for both weather and earthquake, recording a 26.9% rise compared to the previous year.

This resulted in increasing the ratio of houses with full insurance coverage against natural disasters from 52.4% in 2023 to 62.2% in 2024.

This trend indicates increasing awareness of the importance of private insurance for the protection of homes from natural disasters, which is also reflected in the total increase in the country’s insurance coverage rate, which stood at 18.9% (from 17.57% in 2023 ).
The Chairman of the Committee on Property, Transport & Reinsurance, Henry Moatsos said: “The increase observed confirms that citizens are increasingly realizing the importance of protecting their property against natural disasters. The state, through the discount of ENFIA for insured houses, has contributed significantly to the strengthening of this trend. Citizens’ shift to insurance is a positive step in creating a more durable society, ready to face the challenges of the future. “
