At levels respectively or lower than last year, prices of frozen products at high demand during Lent, according to data from the Ministry of Development, are moving.

In recent months, food inflation in Greece has been moving around zero (eg in January 2025 it was -0.5%) and is – according to Eurostat official data – the lowest in the eurozone, the statement said.

In terms of the values ​​of frozen products with high demand During Lent, which primarily concerns vulnerable economic households, they move to levels respectively or lower than last year.

Indicatively, according to the latest official data from Eurostat:

  • Frozen fish (eg cod): -3.1%.
  • Frozen seafood (eg shrimp, mussels, squid): -9.5%.
  • Bread (eg Lagans): +0.2%.
  • Other food products (eg halva, ointments, etc.): 0.0%.

In this context, the General Secretariat of Commerce of the Ministry of Development urges consumers, especially the most vulnerable financially, to do careful market research to avoid buying products offered to unjustifiably high prices and protect their purchasing power.

At the same time, the Audit Services of the Ministry of Development will continue to carry out thoroughly checks in purchase and impose high fines where violations of market or consumer legislation are observed.
