Six axes on how to enhance the attractiveness of the region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace were presented and discussed, in the framework of the 3rd Forum on Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, which takes place 26 and 27 February in Alexandroupolis.

Specifically, OECD’s Gwendaline Jossec, Senior Economist & Policy Analyst, undertook and drawn up a special report on how to develop Europe’s selected regions, including Eastern Macedonia & Thrace, with the main conclusions being presented in the forum processes.

“We are here to help the regions attract investors and visitors,” he said, among other things, during his discussion with Mega journalist Panagiotis Fotinos, before quoting the six main axes of her compositions.

Initially, he referred to the exploitation of the commercial dynamics of the port of Alexandroupolis, explaining that a proper and functional port is an important part of the effort to invest. It was of particular importance to both the increase in local interconnection and the wider costs of Europe on defense in the region. He then underlined the importance of attracting tax incentives, which would be aligned with the needs of the area. At the same time, he stood the need to attract, train and maintain talents, so that young people would not leave the area.

In addition, he referred to the attraction of visitors, noting that tourism is a key opportunity for the area. He also emphasized the importance of strengthening governance, with cooperation and coordination between government and private sector people. Finally, he pointed out the need to strengthen regional and local authorities, as he explained that people in the area are the ones who are aiming to solve local problems.

The conference is organized by the City Hub Events of the Alter Ego Group and the Tsomokos Communication, with a strategic partnership of the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace.
