At the heart of the cuts of 8,000 jobs in Germany are postmen and package carriers. In total, the German company employs 187,000 employees in the country, of which about 4% will be found without a “socially responsible way” by the end of 2025.

The Deutsche Post administration, as the German Branch of the DHL Group is called, said in its headquarters in Bonn that its goal is to make the post office more flexible and more effective.

The spending cut program is expected to affect other areas of the Logistics DHL group, which employs about 600,000 employees worldwide. Headache causes the DHL group the increased cost: Although he managed to increase his turnover by 3% to € 84.2 billion last year, pre -tax profits and interest decreased by 7.2% to 5.9 billion euros. Cost limitation measures are expected to squeeze costs more than one billion euros.

In Germany, the turnover of letters and parcels increased by 2024 by 2.7% to € 17.3 billion. The operating result, however, decreased 5.6% to EUR 821 million.

German Post Office: ‘Problem Child’

For a long time, German post office has been treated as a “troubled kid” by the DHL group due to the decline in profits. Other business sectors are more lucrative, such as Express Services, which mainly demand companies to send important goods and parcels. More profits bring to the German group for supply chains as well as freight transport.

The DHL administration is, however, careful in its financial forecasts. The Managing Director of the Tombs of Maier also awaits in the near future “a sluggish macroeconomic environment” but also a “global political and economic situation that will remain unstable in 2025”.

In Germany, postage increased by 10.5%to change the year. The German post office sought even greater increases, but the federal networks did not allow it.
