Panel SA: Pharmaceutical Industry says it cannot pass on reverse logistics cost of expired drug

by

In the schedule of the Brazilian pavilion at COP26 this Friday (12), Nelson Mussolini, president of Sindusfarma (union that brings together the pharmaceutical industry), said that the reverse logistics of expired medicines faces a different scenario from other products such as electronics and lubricating oil .

“In our case, the drug cannot be reused, it does not become a by-product. It needs to be destroyed or sent to a specific landfill”, he says.

According to Mussolini, also unlike other sectors, pharmacists cannot pass on the cost of reverse logistics to the final consumer because prices are controlled.

Mussolini argues that the population is also responsible for the process of returning the waste.

He claims that the sector currently has 3,000 collection points in the state of São Paulo and will reach all capitals and cities with more than 500,000 inhabitants by the end of 2022.
