The Chinese government has announced today that it is valuing a proposal for US negotiations on the issue of customs duties.
“The US has recently taken an initiative repeatedly” to send a message to Beijing that they hope to “take talks,” the Chinese Commerce Ministry said.
“China is in the process of valuation” of the proposal, he continued.
Washington imposed a 145% customs duties on most Chinese products imported into the US market. Beijing has retaliated by imposing its own additional customs duties up to 125% on some categories of US imported goods.
US President Donald Trump, who returned to power in January and seems determined to implement protection policies, has repeatedly implied that China has come into contact with the US to negotiate customs duties. Beijing has categorically denied it.
On Wednesday, the Republican president assured that there were “strong chances” that the two parties will close an agreement.

“If the US wants to discuss, they have to be honestly for it, be ready to correct their wrong practices and cancel the customs duties they have imposed unilaterally, and take action,” commented the Chinese Ministry of Commerce today.
“If the American side does not correct its false unilateral customs duties, it will show (…) that it is completely hypocritical and will further harm mutual trust,” he added.
On the other hand, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio assured yesterday night presenter of the Fox News television network that China has expressed a desire to organize meetings on trade talks and predicted that they would be “soon”.
“Our finance minister Scott Besed is involved in these efforts and talks will soon be,” the head of US diplomacy said, adding that the question is open to how many goods the US should buy from China from now on.
