Panel SA: Big businessmen are still talking about a third way after Datafolha

by

Faced with the result of the new Datafolha poll released this Thursday (24), which points to Lula with 43% and Bolsonaro with 26% of voting intentions in the race for the presidency, big businessmen are still talking about a third way.

For Horácio Lafer Piva, who has insisted on the need to strengthen a new name for ballot boxes, it is still too early to assess and the scenario could change.

“Datafolha is the most reliable poll, but neither it nor anyone else yet captures the vote of the vast majority of voters, more concerned with their daily lives. There is an indication, but part of the votes at the poles contain voters who are not convinced of their preferences. It’s time to fight anxiety and bet on the debate to come and on democracy”, says Lafer Piva.

The game is still beginning, in the opinion of Antonio Carlos Pipponzi, chairman of the board of RaiaDrogasil. “A third of voters are looking for a third way and part of those who are declining voting intentions at the moment will be able to choose a new way that can be built by an alternative broad front”, says the businessman.

Laércio Cosentino, chairman of the board of Totvs, also thinks that the polls still do not show what could happen in the future. “We have to see the polls to guide us, but as long as we don’t have a definition of candidates and alliances, they are just numbers. I would prefer there to be more competition and not just a quasi-plebiscite”, says Cosentino.

Banker Ricardo Lacerda, from BR Partners, sees a different horizon. “The research shows the consolidation of the polarization trend between Bolsonaro and Lula and low probability of the third way. From now on, the market should focus on the probability of the election being defined in the first round”, says Lacerda.

Investor Lawrence Pih, who was one of the first businessmen to support the PT in the 1980s and also one of the first to publicly criticize the Dilma Rousseff government three decades later, also considers that the polls reflect the moment.

“So far, Lula is the favorite despite Bolsonaro’s massive effort to seduce voters with electoral and populist measures. Alckmin is an important asset for Lula, and the shift to the center, away from the more radical left of the PT, is a good sign. of an eventual moderate government and in line with the thinking of the vast majority of our people”, he says.
