Heavy fine of total EUR 329 million imposed the European Commission to the company’s online ordering and distribution company Delivery Hero and in Glovo’s subsidiary for cartel operation during the period preceding their merger in 2022.

Delivery Hero was fined 223m euros, while Glovo was sentenced to 106m euros.

Brussels announced that both companies, which deliver ready -made meals as well as other retail products, have been involved In harmonized practices From 2018 to 2022, when Delivery Hero, based in Berlin, gained complete control of its competitor from Spain.

Such practices included the exchange of sensitive commercial information, the distribution of the market share between them, and the agreement not to hire officials, the Commission said.

“This case is important because these practices have been facilitated through a distorted use of the minority share of Delivery Hero in Glovo” Competition Commissioner Teresa Ribera said in a statement.

The case marks the first time which the Commission imposes a fine on a company for violating EU rules on cartels. The committee said that both companies “admitted their involvement in the cartel and agreed to settle the case”.

In a statement, Delivery Hero said it “fully cooperated” with the committee throughout the investigation.

He also noted that the overall fine was 20% lower than the initially foreseen. “Today’s settlement allows Delivery Hero to address the European Commission’s concerns, while allowing the parties concerned to move forward quickly,” adds.
