Inflation in Greece in May, after the temporary deceleration of April, as opposed to the eurozone, which recorded further decline, with the consumer price index receding below the target of 2% of the European Central Bank (ECB).

In particular, according to preliminary data announced by Eurostat, the consumer price index in Greece “ran” last month at a rate of 3.3% annually, accelerating from 2.6% of April. On a monthly basis, the index rose 0.3%.

On the contrary, at the eurozone level, the consumer price index continued to slow down and even fell more than expected, slipping to 1.9% annually, from 2.2% of April. On a monthly basis, however, prices were maintained unchanged (0%).

Structural inflation in the block also delayed, which does not include the volatile prices of energy and food products, which slipped to 2.3% from 2.7% in the previous month.

Looking at the main components of inflation in the eurozone, food, alcohol and tobacco are expected to have the highest annual rate in May (3.3%, compared to 3.0%in April), followed by services (3.2%, compared to 4.0%in April, energy (-3.6%, fixed compared to April).
