The funding of 4 projects of Greek interest, with a total budget of EUR 329.5 million, was approved by the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) Coordination Committee at its recent meeting in Brussels.
Greece was represented by the Special Coordination Service for the planning, evaluation and implementation of the NSRF General Secretariat of the Ministry of National Economy and Finance.
Particularly important among approved projects is the height investment About 326 million euros for the Upgrading the Alexandroupolis Railway – Pythio. This approval completed the funding of € 220 million secured in June 2024 for the Pythio – Ormenio section, securing resources for the full modernization of the line from Alexandroupolis to Ormenio.
The upgrading of the railway axis in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace enhances the interconnection with Bulgaria and Romania, contributing to the implementation of the Aegean – Black Sea – Danube Strategic Corridor. The promotion of this corridor is part of a wider strategy of cooperation between Greece, Bulgaria and Romania to strengthen rail links in the region.
In addition, 3 more Greek projects were approved A total budget of € 3.5 millionin cooperation with European agencies. The projects concern:
• In the development of digital tools for the exchange of traffic data at European level,
• in providing real -time information (RTTI) for road conditions, as well as
• Creating innovative airplanes that allow airplanes to fly closer to optimal orbits, saving fuel and reducing emissions.
With the approval of these projects, CEF resources are successfully completed for the Planning Period 2021–2027.
