Of Canadian origin, the main competitor of Embraer’s jets will fly on a tour in Brazil and will be offered to national companies.
The visit of the Airbus A220, Bombardier’s former CSeries project, takes place after its last visit was canceled because of the pandemic, which broke out a month before its presentation on Brazilian soil.
The information was confirmed by Airbus, which will demonstrate the jet to the three main Brazilian companies: Azul (which already operates the competitor Embraer E2), Gol and Latam.
The jet’s passage through Brazil was first anticipated by Aeroin, pointing out that the main bases of the three companies –Viracopos (Campinas), Congonhas (São Paulo) and Guarulhos– will receive the jet in the livery of the Swiss airline.
The Swiss company’s A220-300 will serve as a demonstrator to present to companies and the press how the French-Canadian jet behaves in flight, its economic advantages and how it fits into the Brazilian aviation market.
Currently, there are no new generation aircraft in the country in the range of 140 to 160 seats, covered by the Boeing 737-700 at GOL and the Airbus A319 at LATAM. At Azul, there is not even an aircraft for the existing ‘gap’, as the E195-E2 has 136 seats and the A320neo has 174. The A220-300 takes up to 150 passengers.
Although Airbus highlights that the model will be presented in Brazil with a focus on transporting passengers on short-haul commercial trips, the plane could fit into longer-distance routes, even international ones to neighboring countries, as it has been used in this way in the US. by the Brazilian David Neeleman, in the companies Breeze and jetBlue.
For those who want to go to the vicinity of the airports to see the A220’s first visit to Brazil, the jet is expected to be in the country from April 12 to 14.
