According to temporary data from the Bank of Greece, the travel balance in June 2025 posted a surplus of € 2,984.9 million, against a surplus of € 2,793.4 million in 2024.

In particular, by 8.8%, travel receipts were recorded in June 2025, which stood at EUR 3,306.7 million, compared to EUR 3,038.3 million in the corresponding month of 2024, while increased by 31.4% was observed in travel payments (June 2025: 321.8 million euros, 20.8 million. euro).

The rise in travel receipts is mainly due to the average spending by 10.2%, as incoming travel traffic decreased by 1.7%. Net receipts from the provision of travel services offset by 94.4% of the equilibrium deficit and contributed 92.6% to all net receipts from services.

During January-June 2025, the travel balance posted a surplus of EUR 5,991.8 million, compared to a surplus of EUR 5,554.5 million in the corresponding period of 2024. Increase by EUR 760.4 million or EUR 32% increased by EUR 32.0%, which increased to EUR 7,658 million, and a € 32.1 million increase. Million or 24.0% were also observed in travel payments, which stood at € 1,667.2 million.

The rise in travel receipts came from an increase in incoming travel traffic by 0.6%, but mainly from average spending by 10.1%. Net receipts from travel services offset by 35.4% of the balance of goods and contributed 81.6% to all net receipts from services.

Travel receipts

In June 2025, as mentioned above, travel receipts increased by 8.8% compared to the corresponding month of 2024. In more detail, the receipts rose by residents of EU-27 countries, which stood at EUR 1,743.0 million, as well as residents of residents, which were increased by residents, as well as residents. 12.0% (June 2025: EUR 1,397.4 million, June 2024: 1,247.8 million euros).

The first 6 months

During January-June 2025, travel receipts rose 11.0% compared to the corresponding period of 2024 and stood at € 7,658.9 million. This development is due both to the increase in receipts by residents of the EU-27 by 8.5%, which stood at EUR 4,069.8 million and the increase in proceeds from residents of other countries by 13.7%, which stood at EUR 3,210.5 million. More specifically, receipts from residents of the euro area countries stood at € 3,290.6 million, up 7.7%, while revenue from EU-27-euro residents increased by 12.4% and stood at EUR 779.1 million.

In particular, receipts from Germany rose by 13.5% and stood at € 1,366.3 million, as did France by 2.1% to EUR 455.9 million. The revenue of 9.0% were also reinforced by Italy, which stood at € 344.7 million. Of the other countries, 7.3% rose to the United Kingdom, which stood at € 1,081.8 million, and US revenue increased by 29.4% and stood at € 704.3 million. Finally, revenue from Russia increased to € 9.6 million.

Incoming travel traffic

Inbound travel traffic in June 2025 stood at 4,602.7 thousand travelers, down 1.7% compared to the corresponding month of 2024. In particular, airport travel increased by 3.3% compared to June 2024, while it was reduced by 19.7% by road stations. The fall of incoming travel movement came mainly from the recession of travel from EU-27 countries by 8.1%, as travel traffic from other countries increased by 8.0%. More specifically, travel traffic from euro area countries increased by 7.2% and stood at 1,949.3 thousand travelers, and travel from EU-27 countries outside the euro zone decreased by 35.5% and stood at 651.1 thousand travelers.

In particular, travel from Germany increased by 9.5% and stood at 768.8 thousand travelers, as well as France by 29.6% to 267.9 thousand travelers. Travel traffic from Italy rose 29.7%, which stood at 305.3 thousand travelers. Regarding countries outside the EU-27, travel from the United Kingdom increased by 14.9% and stood at 811.2 thousand travelers, as well as the US by 24.1% to 230.8 thousand travelers. Finally, travel from Russia increased to 3.0,000 travelers.

In January-June 2025, incoming travel traffic increased by 0.6%and stood at 11,691.9 mm travelers, compared to 11,625.6 mm travelers in the corresponding period of 2024. In particular, travel traffic via airports risen by 4.9%, while by 13%.

During the review, travel traffic from EU-27 countries stood at 6,412.9 thousand travelers, down 6.3% compared to the corresponding period of 2024, while travel traffic from other countries increased by 10.5% and stood at 5,278.9 thousand. Travel traffic from euro area countries increased by 2.4%, while travel traffic from EU-27 countries outside the euro zone decreased by 27.5%.

In particular, travel from Germany increased by 4.7% and stood at 1,849.0 thousand travelers, while France decreased by 9.8% and stood at 610.1 thousand travelers. Travel traffic from Italy rose by 4.9%, which stood at 617.2 thousand travelers. With regard to countries outside the EU 27, travel from the United Kingdom increased by 11.0% and stood at 1,521.9 thousand travelers, while the US increased by 20.0% to 694.1 thousand travelers. Finally, travel from Russia increased to 10.6 thousand travelers.
