Inflation recorded a slight slowdown in August, as it ran at an annual rate of 2.9%, according to data from the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).

In particular, the General Consumer Price Index increased 2.9% against a 3.0% increase in the corresponding comparison of 2024 to 2023.

Compared to July, the General CPC increased by 0.1%, compared to 0.3%, which occurred during the corresponding comparison of the previous year.

The Average of the Twelve months of September 2024 – August 2025, compared to the corresponding index of the Twelve -month September 2023 – August 2024, increased 2.6%, compared to 2.9% in the corresponding September 20th comparison with 2023 – August 2023 – August 2024 2023.

The increase of the General DTC by 2.9% in August 2025, compared to the corresponding August 2024 index, came mainly from the increases in the following groups of goods and services:

• 2.2% in the Nutrition and Non-Alcoholic Drinks Group, due to rising prices in: bread, other bakery and pastry products, pizzas and pies, meats (generally), fresh fish, dairy and eggs, fruits (general), frozen vegetables, chocolates, chocolates. Part of this increase was offset by the decrease mainly of prices in: pasta, olive oil, fresh vegetables, potatoes, sauces.

• 1.2% in the group of alcoholic beverages and tobacco, mainly due to prices in: alcoholic beverages (non -served), cigarettes.

• 7.7% in the clothing and footwear group due to rising prices in clothing and footwear.

• 3.7% in the housing group, due to increased prices in: Home rentals, home repair and maintenance, home -related services, electricity. Part of this increase was offset by the decrease mainly of prices in: natural gas, heating oil, solid fuels.

• 0.6% in the Standing Household goods and services, mainly due to raising prices in home services.

• 0.6% in Health Group, mainly due to prices raising in: medical products, medical-todents and paramedical services, hospital care. Part of this increase was offset by the reduction of prices mainly in medicinal products.

• 1.6% in the Transport Group, due to rising prices in: new cars, spare parts and car accessories, maintenance and repair of personal transport equipment, other personal transport services, plane passenger transport tickets. Part of this increase was offset by the reduction of prices mainly in: used cars, fuels and lubricants.

• 1.7% in the Communications Group, mainly due to prices in telephone services. Part of this increase was offset by the reduction of prices mainly on mobile phone telephone equipment.

• 1.2% in the recreation-cultural activities, mainly due to prices in: small recreation-andnochemicals, entertainment and cultural services, holiday package. Part of this increase was offset by the reduction of prices mainly in audiovisual equipment-calculators.

• 2.6% in the Education Group, mainly due to prices increase in: Preschool and Primary Education Tuition, Secondary Education tuition.

• 6.2% in the hotels-brown-restaurants group, mainly due to prices in the restaurants-pastry shops.

• 0.2% in the group other goods and services, mainly due to price rates in: Hairdressers and Personal Care Stores, Social Protection Services, Health Insurance Services. Part of this increase was offset by the reduction of prices mainly in: other types of individual care, vehicle premiums.

In which goods did the prices jumped

The highest price changes were recorded in chocolates (23.2%), coffee (18.5%) and fruits (11.6%), as well as residences (10.9%) and aircraft transport (18.1%).
